No classification scheme has been recorded for Boskoop. That is common outside Europe: the English, French and Spanish systems were each built for their own fruit, and a cultivar grown where none of them applies simply has no class. Consistent description across northern European pomology as a very high-acid, russeted, aromatic culinary apple. No registered classification scheme covers Dutch or German cider fruit.
Very sharp, firm and dense, with a heavy russet and a rich aroma that develops in store. It is a serious cooking apple and an aggressive one to eat.

Late, and it improves markedly over the following months; picked and eaten immediately it is simply sour.
Triploid, so it makes poor pollen and needs two compatible diploid partners flowering with it.
A triploid carries three sets of chromosomes rather than two, and its pollen is effectively sterile. It cannot pollinate another tree and needs two compatible pollinators of its own, which is a real constraint on how an orchard containing it has to be planted.

Made alone it gives a very dry, very sharp drink with unusual aromatic depth for its origin. It is done occasionally in Germany and the Low Countries and it is not a tradition.
About Boskoop
Boskoop is a Dutch apple that Germany adopted, which makes it a mirror image of Michelin. It was found at Boskoop in South Holland in the mid-nineteenth century, spread as a culinary cultivar across northern Europe, and became one of the standard acid components of German and Swiss Most — a use the Netherlands, whose own cider tradition is small, never made much of.
Its inclusion in a cider cultivar list is a point of principle. Continental cider outside France and Spain is largely made from fruit that was not selected for it: culinary apples, dessert apples, dual-purpose orchard fruit and surplus. Boskoop is the most important single example. A list restricted to purpose-grown cider apples would omit a substantial fraction of what actually gets pressed in central Europe.
Its triploidy has practical consequences that recur across this file. Triploid cultivars produce poor pollen, cannot fertilise their neighbours, and need two other diploid cultivars flowering alongside them to set a crop themselves. In a mixed Streuobstwiese that requirement is invisible; in a planned block it has to be designed for, and a triploid planted in a two-cultivar orchard will disappoint.
The name is a swamp in its own right. Schone van Boskoop, Belle de Boskoop, Schöner aus Boskoop and Boskoop are the same fruit in four languages, and Goudreinet is a Dutch retail term that covers it and other russeted reinettes besides. CiderHQ records one entry with four regional names attached, which is the only treatment consistent with keeping one record per fruit.
Names, origin and identity
Cultivar naming is the hardest problem in cider fruit data. The same tree carries different names across ten miles, and two different trees have shared a name for two centuries.

Cripps Pink
A Western Australian cross of Golden Delicious and Lady Williams released in the 1990s, very late and long-seasoned, notable for keeping usable acid alongside high sugar in a hot climate.
Newton Wonder
A large English dual-purpose apple, sharper than a dessert fruit and sweeter than Bramley, pressed on farms and used in modern blends for acid with some substance.
