How many bottles will this batch fill?

Bottles from a batch volume, with a realistic allowance for what is lost at racking and in the filler.

Bottle count

Sediment left at racking, plus cider held up in hoses and the filler.

Bottles filled

129 bottles

This is an estimate from a model, not a measurement.

How this is worked out
  1. Allowing for losses: 100.0 L less 3% = 97.00 L
  2. Bottles: 97000 ml ÷ 750 ml = 129
  3. Left over: 250 ml
What this assumes (1)
  • The loss allowance covers sediment left behind at racking and cider held up in hoses and the filler. Three per cent is a working figure for a careful small-scale transfer; a heavily sedimented batch loses more.
